About work & internship at Creative Blue Musicproduction & Mixing Studio

A while ago at Creative Blue Musicproduction we were seeking for a new intern.

Of course there are some requirements, for people who want to „learn“ audio engineering and music production in a professional music studio.  Maybe in other recording studios it will be adequate to have just a little technical knowledge and interest in all the technical things in the studio. But for a music production this is far not enough! Because, we are a music production and mixingstudio, and we do produce own records including the songwriting, and we will expect from any new employees, interns and trainees, that they already understand something about music. And our interns will not just sit there and watch, they will have to do something!

It will be a great benefit if they can play an instrument, but this is not a must. But, they need to have a certain musical talent, they should be able to hear the chords and notes in a give song, and play or program them. So, the first thing an intern in my studio has to do is, making a lot of arrangements and remakes on given songs. The intern doesn’t need to have an audio engineering degree, rather a musical education, he can be also self-educated person.

The requirements for interns, assistants are:

–       must be able to hear chords and notes in a song

–       basic knowledge about music production and audio engineering

–       first experience in the software „Logic Pro“

–       first experience in recording or programming music with computers

–       a wide-ranging musical taste

–       technical understanding

–       reliability, respect and politely are indispensable!

If the trainee will have all of that, he will have great chances to learn a lot during it’s 6 – 9 months internship at Creative Blue Musicproduction. And, he will have the chance to become an assistant later and earn some money.

So, what will the trainee learn? We will teach our trainees all the things which are important to work in a professional music production studio. The things are listed below:

Duties and responsibilities for trainees at Creative Blue Musicproduction:

–       creating new arrangements of given songs

–       re-arranging and program certain songs and sounds onto a given example

–       preparing sessions for mixing

–       combining, comping and copying large sessions for mixing or further production

–       editing and sorting sessions for mixing

–       editing and sorting samples

–       creating sampler programs

–       combining, creating and copying templates, presets and mixing-setups

–       recording vocals

–       editing and tracking vocals

–       adjust intonation and timing of vocals with melodyne and autotune

–       replacing sounds in songs and sessions

–       hookup mics for recording

–       setup guitar & mics for guitar recording session

–       hookup mics for a drum recording session

–       create and understand analogue and digital setups for mixing

–       and a lot more!

During some of this work, the trainee will get a lot of ear training, and after 6 months he will be able to understand a lot about musical arrangements, and will also become better in hearing frequencies, which will be important for mixing and mastering. When a trainee decides to work in a studio and continues doing all these things, he can probably become “quite good” after a certain time, lets say after 2-4 years, and he can become “very good”, a real professional, after – lets say, 10 years of experience!!!!
